The influence of social norms on social network sites

The goal of this study is to investigate how far norms on social network sites influence people’s behavior. In particular, we want to analyze whether people adapt their disclosure behavior to other users of a social network site. We will study these processes using an experimental design. For this experiment, we need real-world pictures that we can use as example posts of social network site users. This is what we need your help for.

We kindly would like to ask you whether you would be willing to send us between 3 to 5 photos of you that we can use in the study. These photos should ideally be food-related. If you have ever taken a selfie in a restaurant, a bar, with an ice cream, a drink or whatever you can think of, and you are visible in the photo, that would be a perfect post in our simulated social media environment. The only requirement is that you have to be visible in the photo.

We will only use those photos in the experiment and they will only be seen by the researchers involved in this study and the study participants. We will not share these photos with anyone else. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me (pkm58@cornell.edu). If you are willing to share these pictures with us, please use the upload form below.

Thank you very much for your support!
